Ana Lopez

The Gunajuto, Mexico-native knew no English when she arrived in America in 2000 with her mother, five sisters and two brothers.

NE Campus student Ana Lopez said she learned English by attending an English as a Second Language class and by listening.

“I went to school for people who just came here,” she said.

The 22-year-old student, hoping to work as an actress or in television or radio production, has spent two years taking classes part-time at TCC.

If Ana isn’t already busy enough, she helps run a mexican food restaurant, El Sabroso (The Good), with her mother and one of her sisters.

Ana helps with waiting and hosting duties, especially on the weekends.

“I recommend the gorditas, which has different kinds of meats, beans and cheeses,” she said.

Her family opened the restaurant, located at 3450 Decatur in North Fort Worth, in 2004.

Anna said her life would be different if she still lived in Mexico.

“It really would be very hard to stay in school because of the money,” she said.
